JD – Engineering Supervisor

 

Role Objective

The Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for a team of Multi-Skilled Engineers and Machine minders ensuring the site can achieve target output. You will be tasked to minimise downtime through ensuring regular maintenance of equipment. The Engineering Supervisor will ideally be multiskilled having a thorough understanding of both electrical and mechanical engineering, you will be working on several different machines and have a skillset and experience working with pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, gear boxes, valves etc. Ideally you will have the ability to fault find on PLC systems. Working in collaboration with maintenance and operations you will play a pivotal role in achieving objectives on waste reduction, productivity output, quality and will play an instrumental part in promoting Health and Safety ensuring the working environment is safe.  

Areas Of Responsibility

A. Engineering Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Reporting directly into the Site Chief Engineer. The Engineering Supervisor will take responsibility for the coordination of the engineering and maintenance functions across the site.
  • The Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for supervising, planning and coordination of a team of multi skilled engineers, carrying out both electrical and mechanical work such as planned and reactive maintenance activities, reacting to breakdowns, finding out and eliminating the root-cause of problems and working on continuous improvement projects.
B. Health and Safety
  • To always work safely.
  • To ensure that safety and health of those that could be affected.
  • To ensure that machine and plant across the site is safely isolated or made safe as appropriate.
  • Promote a safe working environment by always following best practice.
  • Participate in regular checks and inspections of the workplace.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Actively engaged in risk assessments for HSE compliance and continuous improvement.
C. Communication
  • Continuous status update of all plant, equipment and machinery following PPM’s, Servicing, Repair or breakdown actions.
  • Liaise with Chesterfield Poultry Ltd. Production staff to minimize downtime.
  • Liaise with equipment manufacturers and suppliers at a technical level effectively communicating any concerns or queries.
D. Administrative duties
  • Ensure that all tasks carried out within the PPM schedule, breakdowns and fault repairs are fully documented, recorded on Piranha Shire CMMS and filed. Including activity, repairs, equipment status and the use of consumables and parts.
  • Ensure any parts or consumables used are fully re-ordered, recorded for accountability, and replenishment.
  • Assist stores coordinator in identification of critical spares and suitable suppliers.
  • Maintaining control of the engineering spend.
  • Ensure engineering Computerised Maintenance Management systems is updated accurately and timely.
  • Monitor, manage and report on engineering team levels and holidays to ensure that there are sufficient engineering trades & machine minders to cover production and maintenance requirements.
  • Produce & maintain training records for engineers, machine minders and production staff who access machinery.
E. Others
  • Overall supervisory responsibility of the engineering team across the site to ensure the highest level of operational efficiency form yourself and your team.
  • Assign general engineering and maintenance tasks to the team and follow up on their successful completion.
  • Follow a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule for all plant, equipment and machinery.
  • Carry out PPMs and repairs in a safe and hygienic manner as stated within the company Quality Management System ensuring that operational efficiencies are not adversely affected.
  • Undertake Root Cause Analysis on all failures and break downs to increase factory / plant equipment efficiency and availability.
  • Participate as required in the installation and commissioning of new plant, machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure tools, toolbox contents, parts and consumables are documented into and out of any food handling area.
  • Oversee engineering and service contractors for onsite compliance.
  • Be part of a call out rota to take a turn to be ‘on-call’ and ready to come into work if there’s a major problem.
  • Be prepared to undergo plant specific training if required.
  • Work a varied shift pattern, covering production and non-production hours.
  • Be responsible for any ad-hoc duties as and when required by Chief Engineer

Minimum Requirements

  • Mechanical / Electrical engineering qualifications to HNC level or equivalent.
  • Right to work in the UK and Should be above 18 Years
  • Intermediate working knowledge of MS Office and data logging systems.
  • You will be a proven multi skilled Engineer with hands on maintenance experience, working on both electrical and mechanical equipment, gained in a high volume, FMCG / Fast paced food production environment.
  • Need to be proactive, flexible and excellent communicator.
  • Must have proven track record of fault finding.
  • Good communication skills to directly interact with internal and external clients at the appropriate technical level.
  • Ability to work individually within the engineering and operations team.
  • Successful completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • At least five years of experience within a similar role.
  • Experience of electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial facilities.
  • Experience of working with 3 phase, inverters, motors, mechanical automation assets, conveyors, pumps, compressors, condensers, DC current, abrasive wheels, dehydrators, PLC’s and PPMs.

 

Working Pattern

  • Working Hours: Working on a rota basis, Monday to Friday 5.30am – 2:30pm or 2:30pm – 11:30pm.
  • Flexible to work additional hours at the weekend.
  • Hours worked over 48, paid at time & one quarter
  • Location: Thorne, Doncaster
